Wedding Window: DIY Website Builder with Light Blogging Features
Sharing is caring!
In the United States alone, there are roughly 2.5 million weddings that occur every year. If you’re reading this, then you’re likely interested in blogging either for the wedding industry or for your own upcoming nuptials.
Now wedding bloggers have a couple options to consider based on the goal of their blog.
For general musings on weddings and all the hoopla surrounding them, you’ll need a solid web hosting account and a content management system or site builder tool to help you create and maintain the blog. This means you need to keep looking since Wedding Window’s website service will not be right for you.
For anyone interested in blogging for an upcoming wedding then Wedding Window may be a good choice. It gives you a platform on which to build a wedding website and blog. If you fall into this category, then keep reading to learn more about what you can expect when working with Wedding Window.
What Is Wedding Window?
Unlike traditional web hosting companies and site builder tools we review on this site, Wedding Window is something all its own. Specifically targeting those who want to create a website for a wedding or about weddings, Wedding Window provides the tools necessary to get your site up and running in no time.
According to the website, Wedding Window has helped over 370,000 people build wedding websites with its platform. Be aware though that the main purpose of this service is not to help bloggers. So, if you’re hoping to blog every day in the lead-up to your wedding that’s 11 months away, this will not help you. But if you’re looking to write the occasional post providing your loved ones with a status update, this may do you just fine.
Wedding Website Plans and Options
Wedding Window has definitely made the creation of a wedding website simple. They’ve also simplified the process of signing up for a hosting/website plan as well.
Customers currently have two options to choose from: free and paid.
The Free Plan
The free plan is perfect if your goal is to create a small website to publish the details of your wedding. You can only create about a dozen pages and you can only use the free design theme templates from Wedding Window.
The free designs are decent and mobile-friendly. Customizations are limited, however, so you’re likely going to get stuck using some free stock photography or videography from Wedding Window. While you can still do cool things like add a video background and play music from Spotify, the free plan is very limiting. And with the page and storage limits so low, this isn’t a feasible option if you plan to blog regularly.
The Paid Plan
The premium wedding websites plan will allow you to do much more with your website and blog than the free one. You’re free to customize your premium and mobile-friendly themes as much as you want. You can integrate your website with third-party apps like Facebook or Dropbox. You can also add custom photo or video backgrounds to your site, rather than use the stock photos provided by Wedding Window.
There are other premium features included in the paid plan, like allowing your guests to upload their photos to your site and being able to send out email blasts to those who’ve subscribed to it.
The one thing you’re going to want to pay close attention to here is the limit set on pages and storage. There is a strict cap set on the number of pages and this is why we don’t recommend this website service for anyone who intends on blogging on a regular basis or even in the long-term. It’s just not feasible. Again, if all you want is to blog from time to time on your wedding site, then this will work just fine.
The wedding website editor tool is worth mentioning here as it comes with both plans and is one of the biggest selling points of this company.
This tool enables users to easily build their websites using a “live” editor. From here, you can swap out images and videos, add music, change text, create new pages, integrate with third-party apps, and more.
The planning tools from Wedding Window are also worth calling out.
If you’re planning a wedding, you know that your approach to it might not be the same as anyone else. Which is why your website needs the flexible options to accommodate that.
Of course, wedding planning tools aren’t going to be helpful for your blogging efforts, but it’s still important to know that they’re available all within this same service. With both Wedding Window plans, you’ll have access to tools like:
- Seating chart
- Budget tracker
- and more.
Wedding Window offers a number of other options for wedding bloggers to consider. Pay close attention to what each of them means, however, so you don’t pay for something you don’t actually need.
Here is a breakdown of those add-ons:
When you create an account with Wedding Window (free or paid), you’ll receive a subdomain that looks like this:[yourwebsitename].weddingwindow.com
If you don’t want people to see that your site is hosted by Wedding Window and want it to appear as a separate entity you created on your own, you can purchase a custom domain. Take note, however, that the domains offered by Wedding Window are more expensive than those found on traditional domain and hosting providers.
The good news here is that you can purchase a cheaper custom domain from outside Wedding Window and use it here.
The hosting plans mentioned above run on a yearly payment plan. However, if you’re just looking to have a wedding website and blog be live for the lead-up to your wedding, then you can opt for monthly hosting instead. Monthly hosting here is more expensive than the average cost of hosting you’d find elsewhere.
If you’re blogging and find that the storage limits aren’t sufficient enough to hold all your photos and content, you can purchase additional storage as needed.
Wedding Window: Good for the Infrequent Wedding Blogger
Although there is no information available about the company itself or where it’s hosting infrastructure resides, the website and builder tool speak for themselves.
If you’re a wedding blogger hoping to find a hosting plan and website builder tool targeted to your niche, then keep looking.
On the other hand, if your wedding is approaching and you’re hoping to create a modern-looking website to share what guests can expect and to stay engaged with them throughout the process, then Wedding Window may be a choice worth considering.
