Slide Deck Review: WordPress Slider Plugin
Sharing is caring!
Last Updated on May 20, 2017
Check out any top media website on the internet today and you’ll likely see a slider somewhere on their website. For example, you may check out Yahoo or AOL. If you’re rocking a WordPress website, then there are dozens of options out there for you to implement a slider on your website, but these solutions are usually not very flexible.
This is where Slide Deck comes in. Slide Deck is a premium plugin that not only simplifies the process of adding sliders to your website, but it also creates amazing sliders. But at $49 for a single site license, $119 for 3 sites, and $199 for a developer’s license… You want to be sure that you’re getting your money’s worth.
So, let’s look at this plugin on the backend to see just what it can deliver.
Slide Deck Options
What makes Slide Deck so powerful are the number of options available and the ease with which you can get a professional slider created. With the latest update, you are now allowed to create custom slide decks as well as dynamic slide decks.
When you create a new slide deck, you will see a screen similar to this image on the right. This allows you to choose between dynamic or custom slides. You would use dynamic if you want to pull in things such as Instagram photos, feeds, tweets, or your WordPress posts.
A custom slide deck gives you much more flexibility though, and will allow you to create your slide deck one slide at a time. This can make for truly amazing sliders.
Below are some of the options you’ll see with the custom slide deck.
As you can see, there are plenty of options to customize your slide deck once you browse through the different tabs. You can do things such as:
- Link the entire slide
- Change slide transition and speed
- Turn autoplay on/off
- Randomize slide deck
- Choose from skins (called lenses by slide deck)
Below is a screenshot of lenses that you can choose from to to decorate your slide deck.
My Overall Impression
I’m definitely a fan of Slide Deck. It is a high quality plugin that I’ve used to create some amazing slide decks. You can see some awesome examples of Slide Decks, in particular one that Kiss Metrics did on the Slide Deck Developers website.
Slide Deck has great support and updates constantly. Recently they just came out with support for responsiveness. Overall, there are so many features in the slide deck plugin that I don’t think you can find something similar in a free plugin.
But, for all of its great features, Slide Deck is expensive! If you run more than 3 sites, then you’re going to be shelling out $199 for this plugin.
With that in mind, I would recommend slide deck for websites that already have plenty of content and can take advantage from pulling posts into a slide deck. I would consider Slide Deck a very great option for complementing an established website. With the price of Slide Deck, I don’t think buying the full version of the plugin is a good option for non-established websites. Instead, try out Slide Deck 2 Lite, which will give you a subset of the features (including responsiveness) available in Slide Deck 2 Pro.
